In the current NHL, there is a total of 30 teams. In the original NHL, There were only 6 teams, the Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Chicago Blsckhawks, New York Rangers, Montreal Canadians, and the Detroit Red Wings. In the current NHL there is the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference. There are 15 teams in each of the Conferences.
